Namun begitu, catatan awal dan rekod primer orientalis ini jarang dirujuk pada masa kini. Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk mengumpulkan catatan-catatan penting orientalis tentang kebitaraan dan keunggulan seni bina warisan Melayu dan mencerakin perbandingan antara sumber lama ini dengan (i) hasil penulisan penyelidik tempatan yang lebih kontemporari/ terkini dan (ii) sesi temubual dengan beberapa tokoh pakar/ akademik dalam bidang pemuliharaan seni bina warisan Melayu hari ini. Kajian ini juga akan turut menganalisis kepentingan dan keberkesanan perancangan susun atur ruang-ruang asas yang terdapat dalam rumah warisan Melayu.
